Language and Literacy Development for Second Language Learners (Pre-K- 3rd Grade)
This session focuses on understanding how children learn a second language and prepares the teacher with classroom strategies to better support second language learners. We will briefly review stages of second language learning and how to assess the child's stage of learning. The session will provide participants with concrete literacy strategies to incorporate into their everyday teaching. Photos and examples from several different age levels and classrooms will be shared. Time will also be spent discussing second language learners with special needs, including identification of special needs and strategies for inclusive teaching.
